Born in a small Washington, D.C. basement apartment in December 2022, Stupid Idiot Press is a self-publishing press sprouted from a desire to collaboratively create.
SIP seeks to work with visual art + artists to produce exploratory yet accessible zines. Emphasizing partnership + the mixing of ideas (while creating work that stay true to the visions of our artists!), SIP hopes to continue growing by interacting with art + artists in new + exciting ways.
Stupid Idiot Press was founded by Amanda McHardy + Jenna Banks – known privately as Stupid + Idiot, respectively.
Like any good parents, McHardy + Banks wished for their child to be unique – hence the quirky name. In December 2023, SIP celebrated their 1st birthday. Given the momentous occasion, McHardy + Banks took to their newsletter, "SIP's Sweet Somethings", to recap their story + explain the origin of the name: Stupid Idiot Press. With 3 publications under their belt + nearing their 2nd birthday in a few months (they grow up so fast 🥹), SIP hopes to continue to grow their community + create inspired (+ unique) publications.

Every week (for the most part 🙃), SIP takes to their newsletter to speak on the many trending topics in the art world.
"Sweet Somethings" is also used to announce + promote new projects, share stories + lessons about starting a small business, + tell personal anecdotes. SIP also engages their audience with reoccurring series like: iPhone Photog, Artists We're Loving, + Iconic Artistic Duos.
